Indonesia University



University of Indonesia, abbreviated as UI, is a college in Indonesia. Its main campus there is the North division of Depok, West Java, and other main campus located in Salemba area in Central Jakarta.


University of Indonesia is the leading educational institutions and most prestigious Universities in Indonesia, with Indonesia ranking the highest in the rank Times Higher Education Supplement World University Rankings of 2006 UI got 395 rank in thes World University Rankings of 2007, among 11 000 university are assessed at all world. In October 2008, UI ranked among the top 287 universities in the world and in 2009 ranked 50th big in Asia. In October 2009, the UI ranked among the top 201 universities in the world

During the years 2007-2008, University of Indonesia has been through a series of substantive reforms in the field of academic and non-academic. For example, there is an increasing revenues from USD 800 Billion per year to 1.6 trillion rupiah. The number of scientific publications is also increasing.

History



History of the University of Indonesia can be traced since 1851. At that time, the Dutch colonial government established a school that aims to generate an additional physician's assistant. Students at schools that receive two years of medical training. Graduates are awarded a certificate to perform basic level treatments, and received his Doctor of Java (sienk Doctor), holds that because the doctor was only given permission to open a practice in the Netherlands East Indies, particularly in Java. In 1864, these educational programs plus the time to three years, and in 1875 to seven years. Given any title changed to Medical Doctors (Medical Doctor)

In 1898, the colonial government established a new school to train medical personnel, STOVIA namely (School tot Opleiding van Indische Artsen). Education in STOVIA lasted for nine years: three-year junior high school, three years high school level, and another three-year diploma level. Many graduates STOVIA who later played an important role in the Indonesian independence movement.

In 1924 the colonial government set up RHS (Rechts Hogeschool), which aims to meet the lowly civilian administrative staff. RHS is a forerunner of Faculty of Law. In the year 1927 changed the status and name of the GHS STOVIA(Geneeskundige Hogeschool). Medical training and education building that used GHS into building the UI School of Medicine today. Many GHS alumni who later played a major role in the establishment of the University of Indonesia.

After Indonesian independence was declared on August 17, 1945, Agency for Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia (BPTRI) was established in Jakarta. Consisting of three faculties, namely Medicine and Pharmacy, Literature, and Law. In the same year, these institutions managed to pass 90 people as a doctor. When the Dutch colonial army re-mastered in Jakarta in late 1945, BPTRI moved to Klaten, Surakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Malang. On June 21, 1946 NICA Nood Universiteit or establishing a University at Jakarta. On March 21, 1947, the name was changed to Nood Universiteit Universiteit van Indonesie (UVI). Finally, after Jakarta had taken over again, the government returned to Jakarta BPTRI and combined with the Universiteit van Indonesie, and gave him a new name University of Indonesia (UI).

UI officially started its activities on February 2, 1950 with the president (currently called the rector) first Ir. R.P Soerachman Tjokroadisoerio. Office of the President Universiteit Indonesia initially based in Jakarta, precisely in the Faculty of Medicine building on Jl Salemba Raya no. 6, then moved to one of the buildings former opium factory at Jl. Samlemba Raya no. 4, Jakarta. Dated February 2, 1950 then made the birthday of the University of Indonesia.

Initially, the UI has nine faculties and three institutions spread across five cities, namely Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Law Science and Community Sciences, and Faculty of Literature and Philosophy in Jakarta and the Natural Sciences Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering Sciences, and Educational Institutions Drawing teacher in Bandung, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Faculty in Bogor, Faculty of Economics in Makassar; Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Institute in Surabaya.

In 1955, Law No. 10 about changing the word universiteit, Universitet, and universitit legalized, so since then, Universiteit Indonesia officially changed its name to University of Indonesia.

Gradually, the faculties are located in areas separated themselves to form a stand-alone institution. On March 2, 1959 Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Bandung was formed and evolved into Institut Teknologi Bandung. Furthermore, on 1 September 1963 the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Faculty breakaway UI also be Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), which has become the leading agricultural universities of international standard. Faculty of Airlangga University in Surabaya and the Hasanuddin University in Makassar. In 1964 the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education to the Institute of Teacher Training and Education (Teachers' Training College), Jakarta and now changed back into the State University of Jakarta.

When the New Order began in 1966, the government appointed a professor of UI to occupy ministerial positions in order to restore the national economic situation. Since then, the UI constantly have contributed significantly to government efforts to achieve national prosperity.

On December 26, 2000 by Government Regulation No. 152 of 2000, the UI set as public universities autonomous status of State Owned Legal Entity (BHMN). In such status, UI obliged to put forward the performance management of a public university with the principles of efficiency, effectiveness, accountability, and transparency.

Salemba Campus



Salemba campus located in Salemba, Central Jakarta. Faculty who are on this campus is the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, and several graduate programs, extension programs and the Master of Management Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Engineering and the laboratory.

Depok Campus

Depok Campus, located in Depok, West Java, was built in the mid-1980s to accommodate the modernization of the university. Currently, Depok Campus is the main campus of the University of Indonesia. Most of the faculty in the UI (Mathematics, Engineering, Psychology, Law, Economics, Social Science and Political Science, Cultural Studies, Computer Science, Public Health, Nursing) are here. Depok Campus railroad bypassed by the Jakarta-Bogor, so that students have easy transportation.

University library is also located here. There are also various other facilities such as the University Administration Center, Student Activity Center, gymnasium, stadium, field hockey, lodging (Wisma Makara), travel agents Makara Tour & Travel, and dormitories.

Coat of arms and attributes

Coat

Coat of arms of the University of Indonesia consists of two elements, namely a tree with its branches, and makara. The basic idea is to form the symbol of the University of Indonesia kala-makara. Kala is a strength from above (Sun), while the makara is the power from below (the Earth). The two forces are then combined and distilir by Sumartono, students Force 1951 Arts Faculty of Engineering University of Indonesia, a makara which represents the University of Indonesia's science and his work spreads out in all directions.

The sections in the UI symbol

The following tree represents the tree branches and buds of science with the branches of science, while the buds are blooming and will someday become a new branch of science. Buds that will continue to bloom during the tree's life science. Thus, Sumaxtono would argue that the branches of science will develop in accordance with the needs and progress of the age.

Makara which symbolizes the flowing water that poured out in all directions. Meaning given Sumaxtono was the University of Indonesia as a source of knowledge, will produce graduates who intelligent, skilled, full of piety, virtuous, and personality, as well as being open, responsive to changes and advances in science and technology and the problems faced by society, and able to finish it in accordance with academic rules, wherever they are located.
The design follows the design shown by Sumaxtono meaning to Srihadi (Arts students FT-UI, Bandung Force in 1952) in 1952. However, it is unknown when and who endorse the UI symbol.

The first book that uses the symbol of the University of Indonesia on the cover is the book for the first time Indonesian Universiteit, Faculty of Engineering, Bandung: Plan lessons for the Year 1952-1953 (AID Printing, Bandung, 120 pp.)

Banner

UI have a pennant-shaped axes, commonly used in the days neolithikum, which represents the transition from Stone Age to the Bronze Age. This symbolizes the dynamic nature of the Indonesian people who always follow the times.
In the midst of these axes are a symbol of the University of Indonesia which is round like the sun, symbolizing the University of Indonesia as an extension of the Indonesian people and a pioneer in the field of science. Coat UI golden yellow colored banners and flags on the faculty or organizational unit within the UI symbolize the greatness and majesty.

Alma mater and a Suit Jacket

Jackets UI alma mater has a yellow base color with a picture symbol of the University of Indonesia, which is attached to the chest to the left whose color matches the color of the banner of their respective faculties.

Pitcher Science

"Kendi Science" is a pitcher who at every graduation ceremony handed over from new graduates to new students. Symbolic meanings of this submission is continuity from generation to generation that came out. Sustainability does not happen by itself but as a result of the struggle and effort really.

Rank and Achievements

Year 2009, University of Indonesia ranks 201 on the Times Higher Education Supplement World University Rankings 2009, and is the first rank of universities in Indonesia. The second highest achieved by the University of Gadjah Mada University and the third is the Bandung Institute of Technology.

According to a recent local survey Globe Asia (2008), UI got the first rank among the universities in Indonesia. This report was also supported by Tempo magazine, a major magazine in Indonesia, which conducted a survey and analysis of the rankings of universities and education in Indonesia .. University of Indonesia is considered as the most vibrant university in Indonesia. Since 2004, a survey of Tempo magazine reported the fact that graduates of the UI is among the best graduate student in Indonesia, according to several criteria such as quality of graduates, a good image, satisfaction of industry that uses labor, quality of instruction, educational methodology, the quality of campus facilities which the park based on environment great forest green, and the stringency of competition went to college.

In 2008, Indonesia became a Winner in the University of Indonesia ICT Award for Best Smart Campus with Content and Application. Facilities

Library

University of Indonesia (UI) in Depok, would have the most modern library, the largest and most beautiful in the world. This library building plans will have a building area of 30,000 m2 and consists of eight floors, where the prime mast erection conducted Monday (01/06/2009) builders targeted for completion in December 2009. Library building was designed with the concept of "sustainable building" in which energy needs using renewable sources ie solar energy (solar energy) than it was in the building is not allowed to use plastic. Boarding

UI has two dormitories, the Dormitory and Boarding Students Student Depok UI Wismarini. The first dormitories located on campus in Depok, room with a capacity of 480 boys and 615 girls rooms, each room can be filled in one to three people. Meanwhile, another dormitory is located on Jl. Otto Iskandardinata no. 38 East Jakarta with a capacity of 72 rooms and 111 rooms the son of a princess. Student Dormitory Wismarini UI is specifically provided for students who are studying at the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, and other programs that are in Salemba UI campus.

Student Center

UI students Salemba Hall is one of the existing facilities in coordination with the Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni Relations. Building a capacity of 300 people is often used for various activities such as seminars, meetings, and others. In addition to UI students and residents, the building was also rented to the public.

Student Activity Center

Student Activity Center (Pusgiwa) UI is the UI student activities. Here lies the secretariat of the various student organizations that exist in the UI. In addition, there are also many facilities that can be used by UI students. Facilities include a hall that can accommodate about 300-400 people.

Wisma Makara

Makara guest house located in the Student Dormitory UI Depok. This place is used as a means of accommodation in the area of South Jakarta and Depok, and is often used for activities such as seminars, training, workshops, and others.

Student Health Center

The purpose of this building to serve several important needs of students ie: clinic, pharmacy, Guidance Counseling Students.

Transportation: Bus Campus

Yellow bus

Buses are provided to serve the campus to serve the needs of student transportation in Depok campus. UI among residents, the bus is better known as Yellow Buses (Bikun), because this bus has a dominant color is yellow. Until the year 2005, UI has had 20 units of Campus Bus. The buses are regularly will serve the route on the campus on Monday-Friday, starting pk.07.00-19:00 pm.

Campus Bicycle

College student's use of bicycles in the bike lane. Since 2007, the UI provides Bike rental facilities to the students. Bicycles can be used by students with a way to show the officers guarding the KTM. Bicycles can be used much as you like, but should not be out of the bike path that has been provided. Bicycles can also be returned in the terminal anywhere. So if the student borrowed a bicycle from a bike FISIP terminal, the student must return the borrowed bicycle FIB or terminal to terminal anywhere in the UI. To return the bike, by borrowing the same way by showing the KTM to guard officer. Bicycles campuses serve students until 17:00 o'clock.

Songs

Two songs that made the obligatory song titled Hymn to Alma mater, University of Indonesia University of Indonesia and drums. These songs usually sung at official university events, welcoming new students, and graduation. Hymn to Alma mater song was created by H.S. Mutahar and his verse describes the determination to unite citizens of the University of Indonesia Tridharma college practice, serving the Lord, nations and countries. Meanwhile, the song illustrates the spirit of drum, University of Indonesia UI students to study and worship.
