Bengkulu University will be the colleges that were at the forefront in the development of science, technology and art that support sustainable, ethical and moral in a democratic system that academic and facilities supported by an efficient, effective and integrated, and provide satisfactory services.

Implement education, research, and service to the community for educating and meet community needs;
Improving the academic atmosphere of a more ethical, moral, and democratic;
Improve and develop excellent academic programs, partnerships with businesses, governments and communities;
Increase the competitive ability of Bengkulu Univerrsitas graduates through academic programs are strategic, effective, comprehensive and relevant;
Improving the quality of academic citivitas University of Bengkulu.

History of Bengkulu University


University of Bengkulu (UNIB) was established by presidential decree No. 17 year 1982 and inaugurated by the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. David Joseph. At the same time UNIB inaugurated the first Rector, Prof.. Ir. Soenjoto Sumodihardjo (UGM) for the term 1982-1986. Dr. Ir. Soekotjo (UGM), who previously served as Vice Rector I, led UNIB for the period 1986-1990. For the period 1990-1995 Dr. Ir. Nitza Arbi (UNAND) UNIB entrusted to lead. Year 1995 up to 2005 positions held by the Rector Prof. UNIB. Dr. H Zulkifli Husin, S.E, M.Sc. (UNSYIAH). Since 2005 until now held by Prof. UNIB Rector. Ir. Zainal Conference, Msc., Ph.D.

UNIB existence is the realization of the relentless struggle of the Governor Soeprapto who receive full support from the community, traditional leaders, Pemda Tk. I Bengkulu, and private colleges called the splendor of the University of Bengkulu (UNSEB). Support the university was realized in the form of transfer students as a forerunner UNSEB UNIB Campus along with an area of 24.9 hectares of land in the village banyan Kingdom Bengkulu.

The main obstacle faced during the process of establishing UNIB based on the results of a feasibility study conducted by the University of Sriwijaya of which is unavailable to the lecturers, so that at the time concluded that it was not feasible in Bengkulu established a state university. These obstacles can be overcome eventually after Governor Soeprato cooperation with the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta on the instructions of President Soeharto. Realization of the results of such cooperation sending some of the lecturers include Prof. GMU. Ir. Soenjoto Sumodihardjo, Dr. Ir. Soekotjo, Drs. Sutarto, Ir. Supratoyo and H. Hidjazi, S.H. for seconded officers in UNIB well as structural and as lecturers. They recruit lecturers from several universities in Java and Sumatra.

The sun rays were 17 (seventeen) of fruit symbolizes the Presidential Decree on Establishment No. University of Bengkulu.
Circle, symbolizing the meaning of thorns and surf the date, month and took her years in the Presidential Decree on the establishment of the University of Bengkulu (March 31, 1982).
Two lines of small spines circle numbered 31 (thirty one) represents the number 31.
The composition of the waves into one and the second represents the number 8 and susunann two digits represent the third wave which combined into 82.
Mountain symbolizes the everlasting splendor.
Months in the middle of a small circle until it becomes a big eye symbolizing the flowing water into the river and into the sea as a source that bring fertility and keep producing.
The sun which symbolizes the energy source.

University of Bengkulu is a public university located in Bengkulu, Indonesia, established on 24 April 1982 based on Presidential Decree No. 17 year 1982 and inaugurated by the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. David Joseph. UNIB entry in the list of "50 Best Universities in Indonesia" DIKTI version. UNIB campuses located in three different locations, namely Swamp Makmur (Main Campus Complex), Cimanuk & Water Sebakul.

UNIB first Rector, Prof.. Ir. Soenjoto Sumodihardjo (UGM) served from 1982 until 1986. Then Dr. Ir. Soekotjo (UGM), who previously served as Vice Rector I, which led UNIB for the period 1986 to 1990 and then followed by Dr. Ir. Nitza Arbi (UNAND) for the period 1990-1995. From 1995 until 2006 the position was held by Prof. UNIB Rector. Dr. H Zulkifli Husin, S.E., M.Sc. (UNSYIAH) [1]. Rector in the year 2006 until today is Zainal Conference, Ph.D.

Facilities

UNIB as one of Southeast Asia was the largest the University has several facilities in the form of the buildings there are huge numbers. Some facilities have even UNIB relatively large size among the Rectorate, Library, Multipurpose Building, Stadium, etc.. In recent years UNIB even very active in conducting the development of infrastructure, so they can say that UNIB is "a thousand Campus Building"

Alumni

Alumnus UNIB Some have become important people in Bengkulu Province. Already there are countless number of alumni who became head of the Office UNIB, Businessmen, politicians, etc.. Even one that is Ahmad Kannedi alumni served as Mayor of Bengkulu, the period from 2008 to 2013.
