Airlangga University

Airlangga University, is a public university located in Surabaya, East Java. Established in 1954, Airlangga University is one of Indonesia's leading state university ranks. Currently there are more than 21 949 registered students at Airlangga University. In the year 2009, there were 13 faculty and graduate programs at the Airlangga University.

Unair occupies three campuses spread across Surabaya. Campus A (FK, FKG) on Jl. Prof. Dr. Moestopo, Campus B (FE, FH, FF, Social Politics, FPSI, FIB, Post-Graduate) on Jl. Dharmawangsa In Surabaya. While Campus C (FSAINTEK, FKM, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, F, F FISHERIES AND MARINE, Office of Management) is located in the region Mulyorejo, East Surabaya.

History

The establishment of Airlangga University has a long history. Before Airlangga University was officially founded, on 9 and October 11, 1847, submitted proposals to the Dutch colonial government to educate young talented Java become experts in health practices. On January 2, 1849, through Government Decision no. 22, founded NIAS (Nederlandsch Indische Artsen School) as a place of medical training in Surabaya. Since the year 1913, education took place in a doctor in Surabaya Jl. Kedungdoro 38 Surabaya. NIAS in 1923 the building was moved from Jl. Kedungdoro to the founding of the Medical Faculty of Airlangga University Jl. Major General. Prof. Dr. Moestopo Surabaya.

Then Dr. Lonkhuizen, Chief Medical Officer at that time, proposed to establish a School of Dentistry in Surabaya, which started in July of 1928 to 1945. He gained the approval of Dr. R.J.F. Van Zaben, Director of NIAS. Next, the school is better known by the name STOVIT (School Tot Opleiding van Indische Tandarsten). At that time, managed to gather 21 people STOVIT students. This journey was renamed STOVIT Ika Shika Daigaku with Dr. Takeda as its first director, served between the years 1942 to 1945.

Two years later, the Dutch government took over and then changed its name to Tandheekunding Institute. In 1948 the school changed its status to a Universitier Tandheelkunding Institute (UTI). Under the authority of the Republic of Indonesia (RIS), UTI again renamed LKIG (Institute of Dentistry) for a four-year study period, under the leadership of Prof. M. Knap and Prof. M. Soetojo. In 1948, Airlangga University is a branch of the University of Indonesia, which has two faculties, namely Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry.

Airlangga University was officially established in 1954 under Government Regulation No. 57/1954 and was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on November 10, 1954, coinciding with the celebration of the ninth day of heroes. In the same year stood formerly the Faculty of Law is a branch of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Social Politics, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. The name 'Airlangga' taken from the name of the reigning king of East Java in the year 1019 until the year 1042 namely Sri Lokeswara Dharmawangsa Galu Rakar Airlangga Anantawikramattungadewa or known by the name of King Airlangga.

Symbols Airlangga University is a mount of Vishnu Garuda bird carrying jars of water containing "Amrta" water of life that is eternal. This symbol represents the Airlangga University as a source of knowledge that is always conserved.
Airlangga University-colored flag of yellow and blue. Yellow color symbolizes the majesty, the blue symbolizes the warrior and the soul deep. The colors were taken from the color of the veil that covered the statue of Vishnu at the founding ceremony of Airlangga University by the first President of the Republic of Indonesia on 10 November 1954.

The process of the birth of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Airlangga University initiated through the development of Elementary Mathematics and Natural Sciences Institute (Basic Natural Science / BNS) in the Faculty of Medicine. This institution is an institution which has been developed according to master plan the development of Airlangga University in 1970-1979. Furthermore, the development of this institution, supported by the availability of human resources (HR) as well as adequate equipment, born Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Airlangga University.

Faculty of Natural Sciences, Airlangga University was officially established by the Decree of the Rector of the University of Airlangga Number: 6400/PT.03.9/T/1982 dated July 1, 1982, which was established by Presidential Decree No: 56/1982 dated September 7, 1982 regarding the Organizational Structure of Airlangga University. The establishment of courses at the Faculty of Science, Airlangga University was inaugurated by Education Minister Decree Number: 0556/D/1982 (Appendix 1), ie S-1 Prodi Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. All Prodi has been accredited from BAN PT by decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education course Physics Number: 3920/Ak-I-III-022/UABFGA/VIII/2000, Chemical Number: 00345/AK-2-III-018 / UABKHM / 2000, Mathematics Number: 03343/Ak-2-III-016/UABQMT/VIU/2000, and Biology Number: 0015/BAN-PT/Ak-IV/VII/2000 (Appendix 2).

In the academic year 1985/1986 to 1990/1991, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science Faculty PTN Unair with eight others charged with organizing education D-3 MIPA education, ie, by letter of the Directorate General of Higher Education Dikbud Number: 68/DIKTI/Kep/1987. In the 1999/2000 academic year diploma program open (D-1 and D-3) under the Department of Information Systems and Mathematics opened in the academic year 2002/2003 diploma program D-3 Automation Instrumentation System under the Department of Physics, third-diploma program is inaugurated based license to the Director General of Higher Education, based letter No. 1325/D/T/2002 dated 5 July 2002. Married in 2008 at the Science Faculty UNAIR renamed the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Airlangga University was still in the form of the original Department of Languages and Literature consists of two courses of study are English and Literary Studies Literary Studies Program of Indonesia. Both this program was established in 1988 under the auspices of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Social Politics). In 1998 the History of Science study programs followed two other study programs so that the Department of Language and Literature has three courses of study. Furthermore, at the end of the year the Education Minister Decree No. 1998 was published. 290/0/1998 About The Faculty of Letters, Airlangga University. And since 1998 the Faculty of Letters, Airlangga University was officially opened. In accordance with the strategic plan of development of the Faculty of Letters, then successively opened officially: English Language Study Program D3 (2000) and Japanese Literary Studies Program S1 (2006). Along with the changing status of the University of Airlangga became State Owned Legal Entity (BHMN), the Faculty of Letters also make adjustments in various fields, such as by changing the name of the faculty. Based on the Decree of the Rector of Airlangga University 3292/J03/OT/2008 number, the name changed to Faculty of Literature Faculty of Humanities. Currently, Airlangga University Faculty of Humanities occupies its own building located in Campus B: Roads Dharmawangsa In Surabaya. First Dean: Prof. Wahjoedi, S.H. (1998-2002), Dean Second: Drs. Heru Supriyadi (2002-2006), Dean of the third: Drs. Aribowo, M.S. (2007 - present).
